Mr. Tim Carlin
Hello Peak Families!
I am honored to serve as the founding Principal of Fun at Peak Expeditionary School at Pennington. The chance to create a new school in JeffCO that is purposefully different and makes learning challenging, meaningful, and adventurous is truly a dream come true. From very early on in my career I dreamed of creating this school and my journey actually started in 2001 when I entered the education field as an elementary PE teacher, rock climbing gym owner, and school assembly presenter. I started my career in the Philadelphia area and migrated west, inspired by amazing outdoor environments, a passion for rock climbing, and the chance to create a comprehensive outdoor education program at Rifle High School in Rifle Colorado.
Over the past 14 years as a school leader, I have worked in high schools, middle schools, and elementary schools that range from urban, to rural, to online. Each experience has added a new layer to my perspective on education and how to meet the needs of very different communities and diverse learners. One of the most profound learning experiences of my leadership career was joining the first ever Stanford University School Retool Fellowship program. This program helped me design deeper learning experiences throughout a K-12 educational system and create the kind of positive CREW culture you will see and feel at Peak every day.
As a start up school Principal, I feel very fortunate to collaborate with Expeditionary Learning schools around the country and learn with the national EL education group. I am a firm believer in a three dimensional view of student achievement and want to see all students develop their knowledge and skills, CREW character, and creation of high quality work. When you combine this philosophy with an outstanding literacy curriculum and exciting hands on field experiences, it results in students who are ready to create a better world locally and globally!
As the Principal of Fun at Peak, I feel inspired every day to make the most of each moment with our students, staff, and community. We have created a positive school culture that has resulted in a joyful learning environment that engages everyone in experiences they will remember for the rest of their lives. We celebrate student, staff, and community achievements throughout the school year and make sure to help everyone laugh and smile with our purposefully different approach to daily school life.
Outside of school.... I love to be outside! I have backpacked the entire 485 miles of the Colorado trail, explored our National Parks, rafted many rivers, and love to spend time with my family venturing into the wilderness hiking, biking, cross country skiing & snowboarding. I look forward to meeting people interested in our school and I’m happy to greet you at the door and give you a guided tour of Peak!
Make it a great day!
Sincerely,
Mr. Tim
