Hello Peak Families! I am honored to serve every day as the founding Principal of Peak Expeditionary School at Pennington.  The chance to create a new school in JeffCO that is purposefully different and makes learning challenging, meaningful, and adventurous is truly a dream come true.  My journey towards this opportunity actually started 18 years ago when I entered the education field as an elementary PE teacher, rock climbing gym owner, and school assembly presenter.  I started my career in the Philadelphia area and migrated west, inspired by amazing outdoor environments and the chance to create a comprehensive outdoor education program at Rifle High School in Rifle Colorado.

Over the past 10 years as a school leader, I have worked in high schools, middle schools, and elementary schools that range from urban, to rural, to online.  Each experience has added a new layer to my perspective on education and how to meet the needs of very different communities. One of the most profound learning experiences of my leadership career was joining the first ever Stanford School Retool Fellowship program, which helped me design and create deeper and more engaging learning environments for all students.

Prior to working at Peak, I served as the Assistant Principal at Everitt Middle School, in JeffCO where I supported middle school students and staff in creating the CREW advisory program.  CREW helped to establish a positive school culture and improved student achievement, and this experience at Everitt was foundational to creating CREW and character education here at Peak. As a start up school Principal, I feel very fortunate to collaborate with expeditionary schools around the country and learn with the national EL education group. I am a firm believer in a three dimensional view of student achievement and want to see all students develop their knowledge and skills, character, and quality work. When you combine this philosophy with an outstanding literacy curriculum and exciting hands on field experiences, it results in students who are ready to create a better world locally and globally.

As the Principal of Fun at Peak, I feel inspired every day to make the most of each moment with our students, staff, and community.  We have created a positive school culture that has resulted in a joyful learning environment that engages everyone in experiences they will remember for the rest of their lives.  We celebrate student, staff, and community achievements throughout the school year and even deliver birthday presents to students on a golden bicycle. I feel lucky to support our staff in designing amazing adventure trips into our 7 Colorado environment themes, and enjoy creating field experiences that are directly connected with our curriculum.

Outside of school I love to be outside!  I have backpacked the entire 485 miles of the Colorado trail, rafted many rivers, and love to spend time with my family venturing into the wilderness hiking, biking, cross country skiing & snowboarding.  I look forward to meeting people interested in our school and I’m happy to greet you at the door and give you a guided tour of Peak anytime.
